you want the best unrelated bloodlines possible, so ultimately, wild would have to be the best.
Saying that, its not the best for the conservation of the wild populations, and F1 fish from unrelated breeding groups will be just as pureblood as their wild parents.

For a first breeding attempt, tank-bred will be easier to have success with. This is due to their being born & raised in captivity versus being accustomed to wild conditions & having to endure the rigors of capture & importation. However, the breadth of captive bred fish is limited compared to wild bred fish. That said though, the best first breeding attempts are with those that have been previously bred in captivity as the actual requirements for breeding are already known.

totally agree with Lorne on all said but i would rather go with tank breed and aquire fish from around the country than buy more wild fish than needed... im not a die hard conservationist i swear! Good luck with the breeding though. Do you know what kind/s you are going to try?

I would say get a mix of F1s, so get 2 or 3 from one breeder/seller and 2 or 3 from another, that way you have a mix of blood lines reducing inbreds and since they are tank bred already they will be accustomed to tanks. Though if you can find a wild caught plec breeding group then that is good. But getting fish imported straight from the wild wil be harder as it like a person living in a mansion then getting bragged out of that and put in a 6 by 6 room, he is going to be pissed! and so less likely to breed.

L201 is a very easy fish to breed small size not over worried about water conditions and small spawn size.

A group of 10 F1 fry will grow and you can then sort out some breeding pairs.

Only drawback is rather slow growing .

L183 can be tough to keep in general, once accliitized doesn't seem to bad to breed.
L201 is routinely bred in captivity.
LDA33 has never been bred in captivity.

#1 is to determine exactly what fish you've got. In the past you've mentioned LDA33 (in what you've got thread & previously in this thread) & L201, these are two different fish. L102 & H. contradens are also similar looking to L201.

L201 should not be too much for a beginner to take on, as would either of the other Hypancistrus (L102 or contradens) but LDA33 is an entirely different story.
