My common pleco who is quite large and in a 125 gl tank has sunken belly not very active kind of just floats at the top almost listless, not eating meanwhile more delicate fish like geos, peruvian angels, and green phantoms and peckoltias are all hungry and healthy. What do you think may be the problem? These commons are tough fish. I am moving him to a 40 gl with some smaller Royals so he can be the boss of that tank. I may just get him a tank of his own. He is my first pleco and was a rescue so I am very attached to him.:dk:

Interesting. As you stated, typically a pretty tough fish compared to the other inhabitants. Did you add anything new to the tank recently? Sound like it could be internal infection of sorts, either parasitic or bacterial. I'd avoid moving it to another tank with fish at the moment.

HAven't added any new fish in many months maybe 6 or more months. I ended up moving him and he will be the only pleco as I gave the Royals a tank of their own. I am adding melafix. I put in a lot of current . Trying to feed him sweet potato boiled in garlic water. and I added garlic to the tank as well. THere are some SA Cichlids and Tetras in there but I will be moving them and if he does well for a week or so I may remove the gravel if possible and not too destructive to the biofilter so I can observe any waste. I am hesitant to remove gravel though.

All this moving around of fish is simply exposing more of your fish to a potential disease if that's what it proves to be. While the condition doesn't seem especially problematic right now and only affects the one fish, internal infections can be very frustrating as they can tend go linger and cause problems for a long time.

Should I treat the small Royal Plecos as well with Prazipro? since they were exposed to this fish for about a day or so. I don't think he has pooped in that tank while they were in there with him but just to be safe.
