I'm not too sure if a hybrid between these 2 species can happen, I do play around a fair bit with cichlid X's so please keep us informed. :)

Well a lot more of them are going white so i'm fairly certain they haven't been fertilised, its tank day tomorrow anyway so i'm going to scrub them off, still confused as to why she would lay without a prospective male present :dk:
Thanks Guys for replies

I dont see why they could'nt hybridise, i dont think this mix would be responsible for the "EBJD".
As for American cichlid females laying without a prospective male it is quite common severums, oscars, angels, and jack dempsy will all lay without a male being present as if they had too.

Discus will also lay without a male... with 2 female discus they still go through all the usual breeding rituals....sharing food and following. but when the female lays her eggs she lays them on the side of the tank.

now here is the key, if its a male and female the female will lay her eggs on the side of a pot, or upright plastic tube, breeding cone etc. but not on the side of the glass.

although angelfish will lay and hatch eggs on the side of the glass/tank.

Im with Rabbit on SA cichlids will lay eggs without a prospective male....oscars do it all the time...they wont often breed in a domestic fish tank but have no problems laying eggs.......although throw some oscars in a heated pond and there should be some young on the way.

Interesting Morph but i'm always wary of cross breeding anyway, i mean it only takes a stray mutation and the world ends up with Parrot Cichlids :yuck:
WTH was that guy thinking, looked in a Goldfish Bowl at his LFS and thought "oh yeah i'm gettin me some of that"
