ive had spawnings from some 270s , they were only 6 to 7 cm , the spawns were only small but are getting bigger , 9 on the first now up to the 17 mark , the same for 333s and lo66s, they were just on 8cm , and breeding , has anyone else had this happen , i know of another breeder at ipswich area that its happened to , and his 270s started breeding at 6cm , theirs a lot of info out their on breeding , but what litterature states and peoples breeding records , im starting to assume people arent trying to breed certain species until their a certain size , thats a lot of time wasted , your feed back on this would be appreciated:dk:

i think fish like humans all have a different sexual maturity year. some early others late. My Royal whips layed eggs at 5-6cm. I think it also comes down to good water and food, but mostly sometimes it takes a while for the male to mature and sometimes this is earlier or late. You need the perfect mix on this. The size for breeding is only a guideline where most breed. LIke humans a 14years old can get pregnant, but some other try for years and are sadly not succesful . cheers jk

Must admit i never try to breed my fish too young. I find they never seem to grow as large if they breed to young and have bigger broods if left until they are a bit larger.
That's just my experiences though:)

I bought my 270's from lealea, they were a good 5 to 6cm and bred not long after getting them, they were no longer than 7cm, I have a colony of 8, 3 males, 5 females, my biggest spawn 26, at the moment I'm collecting about 100 fry a month, but in saying that, I know people that bought fish around the same time from lealea, and there fish still have not bred, I've had them for 15 months.
Also bred my 333's at 6 to 7cm, had a lot of trouble keeping the fry alive, but a good chat with Les, I have fry everywhere
