Can an external filter be used on a tropical tank after being used on a marine system

My question is, could I use a second hand filter that has been used on a marine tank if all media was replaced and the filter cleaned?
Also would new pipes be recommended or could they also be re-used if cleaned?
Obviously it would be an Eheim Professional II type.

You will have your work cut out
I have refurbished Marine Eheims
I first fill the unit with descale and they run it using a bucket of hot water if you do it over a few days it will remove all of the Coraline algae then i strip it to its components parts and apart from the head i run it through the dish washer 4 or 5 times
then give the head a good scrub wash it dry it and wash it again.
Pipes i would chuck its as cheap as chips.

Thanks for the info Bob. I think I will not bother.

I know it's going off topic slightly but did you try the dimmer switch on a filter to see if it would slow the flow down?
