I have some bugs in a tank I bought second hand, really need to get rid of them they are creeping me out. I've tried to take a pic but my camera isn't good enough. They seem to live on the glass at the top and jump across the water. They're really fast, some look a greeny brown colour but then others look white. I've took the lid off and the sliding glass lid, cleaned the lid with a cloth with a bit of bleach on and the glass lid I've put in the bath and showered it off. I've filled the tank up so they can't stay under the glass brace bit that goes around the top and have been wiping them off the top of that bit, but they're so fast as quick as I'm wiping they're jumping back in the water. I'm a big baby when it comes to creepy crawlies, they've got to go, what else can I do to get rid of them? What are they? Thank you

Hi all,
They are springtails, and entirely harmless so you can ignore them. If you really want to get rid of them either of the 2 suggestions will do.

If you leave the tank in the house for few days empty that will also kill them, as they can only live in moist environments. If the tank has a plastic trim? they will be living under the trim.

cheers Darrel

Sorry didn't explain that very well. The tank has been running in my house for a couple of months, it came with fish in so was set up in a hurry. I never had time to give it a good clean. I've took the plastic rim off the front but not the back yet, I'll do that in a min. I've got to get rid of them, the tank is in my bedroom and they make me feel all itchy, lol now I sound like a right idiot, I just can't have bugs in my house.

I understand the thought of bugs making u feel ill.
We have around 1000 sp of "Bugs" living in any house, in fact we are covered in them.

Thanks macvsog23. I think I may just spend all day bleaching my house from top to bottom, lol. Like they say out of sight out of mind, I can see these horrible little things so they've got to go.
