do you think a 2080 is too big for a 3ft,
Well, i guess it all depends what you want to keep in there but to be honest it does seem like overkill. I know we say you can never have too much filtration but definately you could easily get away with ALOT less than that. Eheim are not like the el cheapo Chinese filters that say 2000l/h but only trickle out of the spraybar. The output from a 2080 will certainly pump in a 3 foot. I run 2215's on my 3 footers along with an internal powerhead.
Was there any particular reason you wanted the 2080, or just 'cos you saw them cheap on ebay?

I would strongly recommend AGAINST this, as you have a potential to have a fire and burn out the electrical system, especially from 110V to 240V.
In Australia you have great offers on all Eheim filters and on a 3ft tank I use Eheim 2215 and/or Eheim 2217. There is plenty of power and turnover in those. I however have bought over in Germany the Eheim filters, but they run on 220V so not much difference to Australia and I do use these at home in Sydney. Do not use 110V electrical goods in AUSTRALIA, fire warning big time cheers jk
