Hi, must be the season!
my Geos have laid eggs again (previous attempst either did not make it through the night or fungused or young only made it a few days- too many predators).
anyway they laid yesterday so I went through the chaos of catching the other geos in the tank and took them out.
this morning most eggs still there so in with a chance this time.

thanks, well some seem to have hatched, and they left the paler unfertile eggs onthe log - which the yoyo soon polished off once he was allowed near the log!
I thought one parent would take them and keep on mouth till free swimming, but they both have some, and every so often they spit them out on the sand and pick them up again after a while. I suspect each time they do this they may loose a few. You can just see the egg sack and a wiggly tail!

Nice one Irene. I removed my other Geos when mines spawned a few months ago. They got to the free swimming stage, but I still lost them all. It could only have been my Corys or Plecs that got them. :(

I've since had 2 spawns from them, but I have nowhere to move the parents or other fish to now as my other 4 footer belongs to my L134s again. The other half says I'm cruel and she would like to see them bring up a brood, but I just keep telling her that I would if I had another decent sized tank! She hasn't taken the bait yet though, lol. I'll get there in the end though. Hehe.

absolutely- a new tank!
I have only now been able to take the the adult geos out as I recently got a new 4ft.
however there are still plecs and cories in with the breeding geos. every time the young are on the deck and a big plec goes by the waft from his tail scatters them all and the parents frantically gather them back -lol. not easy being a parent -in any species!
I think if they make it to free swimming they have a better chance to escape cories but not too sure about the yoyos. might try and take them out sometime if no luck with this brood. would cause too much disturbance to try and catch them now.

HI, i have a good sized group of fry in the main tank (the pair in photo above) which are free swimming now!
PLUS i have another group, free swimming but still in care in dads mouth, from the two I removed and put in my 4ft L134 tank to get them out of the way!.

so with a bit of luck I should get some up to a decent size.

i only hope all the pherimomes or whatever will encourage the l134 to breed- I've tried lots of things but this is a new one!

excellent news, was worried that you'd get back to find them all gone.
fingers crossed for them all

13 days from egg laying, free swimming and not mouth brooding anymore...

the other geos are still mouth brooding but free swimming so they come out for a while every so often.

Hi Irene, any updates on the Geo's???

I'm hoping mine (that I got from Brian) might start to think about spawning soon.... interested to know what you feed them etc, and tank param's.....

Might have to re-read Brian's thread from when he had his first spawn etc.... ;)
