hi everyone that inhabbits the planet of Pleco (sorry Yoda on the brain)

I need to buy a 200lph + here or there powerhead to power my home made sponge filters.

For some unknown reason two of my powerheads just stopped working. I am now using two dogy powerheads that i have to use the cave man technique on every now on then to keep working!

My plan is to connect two sponges to one powerhead that has the combined power of the two i was using.

If you have any ideas on what i could buy as i am going in circles. I need to buy from the net as the closet store to me that has any is an hours drive each way,

If you see any problems with my idea as well feel free to share. I wanted to use one powerhead instead of two so if this go's wrong i only have to replace one and its less electric!

respects and thanks

sorry that you are facing issues with the power heads. I use Corelea powerheads and seem to have no issues, they as all other equipment demand regular maintenance as well. I think in the net you could find various ones, but it would be a price issue as well. I would not go the cheapest, but I am sure you can find something. good luck cheers jk

cheers bb

The annoying thing is I keep up with cleaning these babies as money is money and they cost money. They wern't the best so i am not surprised they only lasted two years. I wonder on average how long are they ment to last?
At this point I think money talks- well at least it buys a longer warranty! lol

I typed in 'Corelea powerhead' and google came up with nudda!?! what is that about?

You can't hook the koralias up to sponge filter. They're a circulation pump not really a power head.

I like the aqua clear power heads. They last long and don't cost a lot.

I had actually been googling them in a lfs but i can only find them up to about 1500lph? does that sound right to you ?:dk:

Most likely you won't get the same filtration out of one powerhead running 2 sponges as you'd get from the same 2 sponges with 2 powerheads. It boils down to efficiencies and flows. Inevitebly one sponge wil have better flow than the other for whatever reason and it'll get the bulk of the flow, then it'll get plugged & the other sponge will flow. Chances are unless you oversize the powerhead considerably you'll end up with less actual filtration than you would by running 2 seperate filters. Even then unless the filter is designed to draw flow evenly through the sponges you'd probably lose some capacity.
