Hi all I am James and have been keeping fish now for about 8 months. I currently have one tank but this number will be going up at some point! It's a heavily planted180l juwel rio with injected co2. I don't have any plecs yet! But thats why I am here:). I have narrowed it down to 3 so far l046 l134 and l260. I have heard mixed reports on l046 being in community tanks. Some people say they do fine others say they struggle due to not competing for food. Is it that tank bred ones cope better or is it pure luck? I would like to get a plec for my community tank and thinking of starting up a second tank for a plec colony again I am not 100% on what but its currently between the 46 and 134. Any pointers and advice welcomed :) look forward to chatting to some more plec fans!

as your a beginner with plecs i wouldnt start off with a zeb id strt off with so
something simple like your 134's. id wait until you learn a bit more about the small nicks and nacks about plecs before you jump into the deep end with a $1000 fish.
and i dont keep anything with zebs better safe than sorry.
just my opinion:)

Thanks for the advice. I think I am going to go for the 260 in my community tank and work towards contour of 46 in their own tank with maybe just some dither fish. At least I am keeping another hypancistrus so can get a feel for the zebs needs. I must admit I was slightly puzzled when I saw the 134 is under peckoltia my limited plec knowledge led me to believe there was 3 types of plec. Hypancistrus, ancistrus and panaque. Could someone explain the peckoltias to me and any differences in care.

Peckoltia is a genus of small south american armored suckermouth catfishes. Many of these fish are popular fish. Peckoltia live in pfreshwater habitats in the amazon. there is more tha n one species. they live in shallow, rocky like places and in quieter water where they hide inside logs. :)

Peckoltia are members of the family loricariidae, (armored suckermouth catfishes)they have armor plating on their body instead of scales. The biggest difference between all the peckoltia species is coloration. They usually have a saddle-shaped marking on their back. IMO care varies throughout the species wether it be food requirements habitat details (water flow, furniture etc etc) above all though they are peaceful fish.
