Bristlenose Babies

Hi all,

My first experience breeding plecos.. My normal Bristlenose male has mated with my Albino BN female.. Eggs are now at the wriggler stage and appear to be free moving...

When should I try and separate the babies from my male, George? They are hiding in a coconut cave in my 55 gallon community tank at the moment and I would like to try and raise some of them!

Hi Allan congrates is there anything else in the tank ?
If not you can just leave with dad
feed veg and flake and they should be ok
or if you want to raise your self pick up cave take it slighty out of water so male backs out of cave then put fry from cave into fry saver with an air stone

There are Cichlids in the tank so I've just moved the cave into a fry saver now.. Dad looks distraught He keeps diving back to the area where the cave was and frantically searching.. I feel so bad!

Was this too soon to remove from Dad? He's still searching for his babies!

They should be ok. I would put the cave back in though. You'll have more eggs in another couple of weeks if you're lucky.
Once the egg sacs fully dissolve I cut a zucchini in half, drop it into boiling water for 30 seconds & then into cold water. They will eat constantly.
I also add a little bit of driftwood for them to suck on

Update: cave placed back in tank, both adult plecs avoiding it at the moment. Driftwood and broken up plec tablet placed in fry saver with an air line:

You shouldn't feed them as yet because they are still comsuming the egg sack...

Hi Allan as Anfo said dont need to feed until eggs sacks are gone could take 4 days by the look of them:thumbup:

Tonights update!

Yolk sacs seem to be mostly if not all gone and I see strings of pleco poo appearing! I've nuked some cucumber in the microwave quickly and placed it in with the fry. Can anybody tell if I have some albinos or are they all commons? I count roughly 60 fry.

Yeah I agree. It's been ages since I had them but I remember albinos being pretty distinctively yellow from an early age

The babies are getting on well.. Eating fairly constantly and slow growth is shown.

I count 62!

looking good they're all commons but seem healthy.
My albino's have just spat babies out of the caves today so if you want an albino pic for comparison I can go get one for you.
