Issue Since yesterday i realised that even thought the tank light was One of my peppermint is on the top close to the water surface . She ocassionally tends to raise her head out of water and grab some air bubbles and then rushes down ,
Her Tail fins seems to be a bit shredded .
She is not eating ,
I have dosed the tank wiht Melafix .
There is no cloudy film \slime around her eyes ,
Rest Peeps look ok , I have had this issue before and was roo late before i found it and lost breeding trio ( Different Tank ) ,, I do not want to loose this fish , Please help
Any suggestions will be helpful , Thanks a Lot

Not sure if your nitrate would be reading "0"
But it would be a good idea to test again. What temp is the tank?
I find that when Plecos repeatedly dart up to the surface and back to the bottom it's because of lack of aeration in your tank. Try adding an airstone for starters and see how it goes. I've also found that when Plecs sit at the water surface line it's a good indicator that either oxygen is short or something else is amiss with your tank.

Hi
I had a similar experience a few years ago of the peps coming to the surface and lost a whole batch of peps and a few L 104's,L397's, incidentally i had bought a few Angels from monaco Aqarium which started to die slowly,I tried melafix /salt @ rate of 1gm per ltr, then pimafix nothing the last 2 angels had their tail eaten but body was good I tried white spot remedy it sorted the 2 Angels and their tails regrew in a few months, had to take out the 3 peps as I have learnt from past experience that they do not like to be medicated with anything other than pimafix or melafix.
I realised it was Ichthyophthirius as the last 2 peps that died had their tail etc eaten which slowly came up to the body as they died only one little pep survived I had to decontaminate the tank let it dry for 14 days then started all over again It could be a similar situation but there are other diseases like the myco bacteria that are hard to eradicate but the symptoms are different again'Do hope you can rectify your tank problem & Hope I have not scared you cheers, Pepper 28

Hi,
Yeah it's always good to see your fish doin well,if the peps still seem to be on the top it because when you use melafix or pimafix it sort of depletes the oxygen a bit so you've got to make sure there is a powerhead with the carbon taken out to provide good circulation, installing a UV at some point in time will definately help, but I'm not sure if when the fish is in a weakened state, cheers

Thanks Pepper ,, i have been keeping a close watch ,, not sure if the peep is ok as she still goes to top every now and then ,, but i beleive her health is not getting worse,, fingers crossed , m planning to re-do the tank today so will have a decent look on all the peeps and will figure out if any other have the same issues ,,
I bouth a UV Resun 28 w , hopefully good enough ,, will advise the outcome shortly
