Compatable Tank Mates

So glad I found this site!

I bought a Pleco from Walmart to put in a 2 gallon tank with Betta.

Well, IMAGINE THIS---he grew! So I studied a stack of aquarium books from the Library, then purchased a 29 gallon tank and moved Harvey to a new home.

Well, IMAGINE THIS---he grew! Harvey is now 11-12 inches long. We found a 120 gallon tank on Craig's List and moved him to a bigger home, which I'm sure he appreciates. But the tank seems so empty.

Any suggestions for Compatable Tank Mates? I had thought I would look for chichlids but then read that some can be aggressive toward Plecos.

I would appreciates the benefit of your experience!

fill that 120 up with different schools of tetras, barbs, corydoras, hatchetfish, rainbowfish and maybe several pairs of german blue rams. It will be beautiful!

I think possibilities are endless, depends on which types of fish you like and which pleco you have got. I have them all my tanks, all are freshwater tropical tanks some are kept at high temps others at 26 C so really depends...

Good luck with the fish keeping and enjoy filling all those empty tanks :) :)

:welcome: indeed. Now what type of pleco is it ? Can you send us a photo ?
I would add as tank mates cardinal tetras, rummy nose tetras etc in a large school of 20-30. Also approx 5 of the cory types and that should give you colour, movement and fun. let us know cheers jk :thumbup:

MEET AND GREET HARVEY

Thanks for the advice and comments. My tank now has
6 White Cloud Mountain Minnows,
7 Black Ruby Barbs (was going to buy 6 but that would have left 1 alone at the LFS---just felt it was unfair to #7),
6 Blue Rams,
2 Platys and the newest
3 Silver Dollars. Wow! I'm really liking the schooling fish. They are all peaceful and get along.

So now I need to work on the plants. In the 29 gallon tank the plants were full and beautiful green. In this tank, not so much.

Do you guys use the CO2??? Is there a good plant that a Pleco doesn't eat?
Any special advice on lighting?
