clever dick.
gonna have to be the 8' x 18" looking at that, 24" looks a tad too wide, how about an 8' x 20"?

8x18 was my thoughts too....

The garage is going to be split with the rear 1/3rd being seperated off - the right hand side will be the fish room eventually and the left hand side is going to be the dogs room...

the other 2/3rds will have my workshop and 2 motorbikes in ;)

I'd go as long as you can afford 6 or 7ft with minimum 2ft width and depending on max size of fish 18 - 24" high
The restriction of access through the Patio doors shouldn't be too big an issue if you can stretch to 30" wide that would be awesome
Generally as the height increases so does the thickness of glass needed and you start moving into double base territory so the price rockets.
How about building your own out of wood? would be nice to see an MFK stylee DIY thread here on the Planet, you could even make it L shaped so it runs behind that sofa as well

right then folks.... Think we have a winner.... Unfortunately when I mocked it up - the 8ft was too long , even 7ft looked silly....

BUT by going for a shorter 6ft tank- I can go up to 2ft wide... :)

Next thing id the height... hopefully we'll be getting 30" tall :)

750l should do me nicely :) - best start saving for the wood!

As soon as the French doors are fitted - we'll strip the wall that will be behind the tank and decorate it so that the tank can go in and not be moved anytime soon :)

Will be getting the ball rolling tomorrow - I've been telling people not to get me anything for xmas... btu cash towards the tank would be great :) :)
