I like this pic of my 16" L190, the pattern of the skin is quite interesting.

12" L190

New'ish L27

2 of my L27

L27 with a gammy eye

And ive noticed that my L27 Tocantins dorsal is becoming elongated. The second and third rays are now larger than the the first. Starting to remind of that 'longfin' L27.

Nice updates Matt.

Always amazed by the clear tank waters (for panaques!!) and that huge guy you keep inside.

Makes me look forward to that xingu...should be arriving tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments. The new'ish L27 probably looks so good because hes out of the water and terrified. I think they always looks better stressed.

@sepp: congrats on finding a xingu, post pic when you can.

How do you keep it so clean? do you think the bare tank bottom is the best method?
They are clean because they have hefty filters coupled with 50% weekly wc's and regular siphoning. The bigger tank with more royals has a solids handling pump and pond filter which is brilliant for mech filtration and eheim 2180, the smaller tank has 3 externals and Eheim internal which do an equally good job.

For me and my tanks bare bottom is definitely necessary. In the future I intend to have lower stocking levels so will probably use a substrate because I think they benefit the fish more.

that last photo is
Tanks like these always have me in 2 minds, i love how you can see all those beautiful inhabitants, but my preference is for low light with plenty of dark spots, sure i don't see my fave Plecs everyday and some only when i move wood for cleaning, but i like my fish to feel secure.
Your 12 and 16 make my little 4-5" look like a baby, heck your big royal even makes my 16" Gibby seem tiny, love that chew.

I know what you mean. There are still places to hide (which they take full advantage of) but for the larger ones they need the room (15" gibby, 12" L190 etc). Its not ideal but for time being it has to make do. When im able to want to keep them a much lower stocking levels and if possible all seperate, im backing away from community tanks.
