I use them on long trips here as temps can reach over 40*C. my only advice is make sure you have plenty of batteries as mine (jebo) seems to eat them in about 45 mins.

I keep one for emergency, but eats battery and is very noisy.
I have seen some good ones for sale in other countries which are standard mains air pumps so you have them in that tank as normal, but battery cuts in -like ups- if there is a power cut, which would be brilliant if on hol and it cuts, but cant get in UK.

Is the car battery a joke? Has my hair turned blonde? :dk:

I have some killifish that are cold water species and I thought I might put them in the garden shed. I don't want to run power down and wondered about a huey hung filter. Sounds like the battery operated ones wont even last a day. Any other ideas?

The car battery and invertor works, you have to make sure the battery is always charged. This is good as a backup if you ever have a power cut, cheap than a generator. Not sure how long a car battery would supply some air pumps though.

To make sure the battery is always charged you can get a trickle charger on the battery which keeps it fully charged and extends the life of a battery that isnt used often. We use them at home on my father's MG and my mini when they're not going to get a drive for a good while.
