Hi all. Yesterday I found 5 eggs outside of Dads cave! I put them in a Tumbler but was not confident that they were fertilized. After viewing the eggs today I believe they actually are fertilized as I think I can see their little eyes! It's their first Spawn so I'm not sure if there's anymore in the cave? I don't think so though. The downside to all this is I'm about to sell my house and move! Hope when they get shifted around it doesn't have a negative impact on them or their breeding?! Before this I was thinking of selling all my Colonies as I'm not sure if I can house them where I'm going? I'm going to try now though. :)

Thanks Guy's. I came home this morning to find all eggs hatched in the Tumbler! I also found another wriggler near the Cave! :woohoo: I've added him to the Tumbler as well. I think I'll leave them in the Tumbler for good water flow and when they use most of their egg yolk I'll place them in a Fry Saver. Does anyone think leaving them in the Tumbler could be too stressful for them due to the movement? Tx.

no idea, I have never used a tumbler. do you have any pics?
some plecs will cope better than others, BNs are relatively tough, not sure about L333.

I think you need to mimic the inside of a cave as much as poss so dont need more movement than dads fanning. so I have only ever tried a fry saver with an air stone (and that was not always very successful either). hopefully some other members will have tumbler experience.

L333 are a really nice fish to breed and the fry seem very strong and grow soooo quickly.

Heres to many more spawns:woohoo:

Thanks for feedback guy's. I have left them in the Tumbler and placed a clamp on the air hose to reduce the water movement. Now at least they can bunch together at the base. I am determined to take them to my new place in near future. I wonder if I'll have more fry to consider by that time which should be within the next couple of months. Hope I don't inadvertently kill any Fry! This can't be helped unfortunately. Just hope all goes smoothly.

Should I avoid high Protein foods in initial feeding? From my knowledge I think for first week or two I feed Vege products then slowly introduce the Protein? Such as BBS? Thanks again for any advise!

BBS will be good from the start:thumbup:. I only ever feed my fry mixed dry foods that have been crushed down to a fine powder using a pestle & mortar.
High protien is not a problem with L333. I crush up things like Massivore pellets,Tetra prima,Earthworm sticks and then mix it with finely crushed spirulina flake/tabs.

Like I have said, L333 grow really quick and seem to be very strong. I have a breeding trio in a 2ft with around 100 plus fry with one 30% water change a week until the FH is up and running. Touchwood I have not lost one yet.

Good luck and pics would be nice:yes:

Thanks heaps Geeman! Really appreciate you parting with your knowledge and experience! During the last day I've arranged a container of BBS eggs and will commence feeding BBS as soon as the egg yolk is low. Babies are already showing colour. I'm unsure if there are more in the cave but due to it being their first spawn I doubt it. Anyhow I have my Saver on the ready and also have Spirulina Tabs, Hikari etc too. Any my Mortar and pestal! I'll get photo's in next couple of days and will post them up! Thanks again Geeman!!! You obviously know what you doing with that kind of casualty Rate! Well done!
