RO Water

i want to start using RO water in my tanks. But how do i introduce it to the tanks without any issues. I currently have 3 tanks, 1 large community, and 2 smaller breeding tanks (183's & 333's)

the community will be changing over to T5's very soon, if this makes any difference on the advice?

Work out the amount of RO/tap you want in the tank. Then when you do your water change(as long as not too big) add the new tap water and RO.

ie if you have a 200 litre tank and do 20% change and you want to have 50/50 ro/tap then you would need to add back 20 litres of tap and 20 litres of RO

If you have fry in the breeding tanks, i would smaller than 20% water changes so the fry aren't stressed at all.

This was how i did it when i changed without any problems, it takes a little while but eventually you would have the amount of RO you want in the tanks.

I don't think the t5s will make any difference really.

Just do the water changes with treated R/O
Start with a rather High TDS about 1/3 lower than your tanks.

Slow and safe.

Any signs of stress stop and slow down.

Never add neat R/O

if you dont want to add part tap water cos you tap water is yuk, then get some RO RE-Mineralise salts like the tropic marin one or kent do one.
than as above, just start using on small w/c every few days or so.

If you want to save money from using mineral salt. just tee off with a tap just before the ro memberance. this will be your HMA water which you can mix with ro water to achieve the correct TDS.

Personally I don't bother with HMA, I use straight from the tap to mix.

Defo worth thinking about HMA if you are going the RO route:yes:

I have RO and mix with HMA as the tap water round here is horrible and have to admit it has improved my breeding success no end. I found buying the minerals a costly habbit. Being able to adjust the mix to what you need is superb

OMG Irene you Genius.

I have a slight problem with the new fish house. As of yet I cant seem to find any drains round the back of the house so was thinking about maybe building a soakaway. This may be the way for me to go until I get drainage sorted

so could I just use hma? will this have any impact on the 183's?? this is the main reason i'm doing all this!

I would use R/O HMA will not alter the PH or the TDS

I use HMA as a additive to the R/O
