what kind of snail is it?
most snails will burrow into the sand, which is what makes them so popular, they are great for stopping pockets of gas building up under the sand

Apparently its normal behaviour but they will also do it if the temp is too high or low.

I cant say that I have seen my Apple snails bury in the sand - but then i've only one tank with sand deep enough. I have had them go to sellp for a few days or so and I thought they were dead. lol.

if they are apple snail babies, then they must have laid eggs and you would need an adult pair unless you aquired one female adult who had recently been near males.
are they round snails, pale yellow?
if they lay eggs they lay them out of the water so look for clusters of pale pinkish eggs anywhere out of teh water, eg on glass at back of tank, on hood, top of filter etc.
do you have a pic to help id him/her?

yes looks like one, many are more yellow but there are colour variants.
look for eggs or remains of egg cases in top of tank. the babies might be apple snails but could be ordinary brown tank snails from the plants.

think the babies came from the plants.i had to pull out 2 plants (cos the heater packed up)put the plants in some water in a jug and found loads of
even smaller snails on it,no sign any egg cases.

right, these sound like harmless brown tank snails, I get loads. some people put loaches in to eat them but need a good sized tank for them. I just remove them when get too many. Also squash them against the glass and the fish eat them.
