Sorry to hear the news. How many times has he done this?
maybe a dozen or more times, at first he would eat the eggs pretty much as soon as they where laid but i managed to pull 21 fry from the last spawn, not sure if they got chance to hatch this time

I would like to say that he will improve with age Dave but I have a 400 that is 4 years old and always eats the eggs. I pulled them for a few spawns and then gave him another go but he did exactly the same again:wb:

Is it just a pair or do you have more than one female?.

Cheers

hmmmm ok. Maybe worth a trying to keep just a pair. My 260 would often spawn and then eat the eggs because he always had a female ready to spawn sat outside his cave. When kept as a pair he never ate the eggs.

Worth a shot IMO.

good idea mr gee i think i might just try that and see what happens, i guess i could rotate females as well so they get a bit of a break and if that dont work i will be looking for another male
cheers
