Just interested to hear your review, as it does appear the product would weaken the biological filters efficiency.
Cheers

I have a purigen bag in some of my canisters.
It does appear to reduce nitrate readings to zero which is not possible as I have a tank full of gravel in there as well.
It does a fantastic job of keeping the water clear and polished.
I keep a roster on the canisters and usually about 6mth mark I replace the purigen bag.
Oh btw, stand the purigen bag vertical off to the side of the canister so it doesn't impede any rotor curculation of water in the canister.

I have used it in the past, i always thought the tank looked a bit surreal, like the fish were swimming in fresh air because the water was so clear. Haven't used it for a long time though as prefer the tannings in water(yellowish) look

will purigen remove ferts and deactivate flourish excel like carbon does?
never used purigen with ferts etc so cant be sure, but i'd have to guess that it wouldn't remove them, unlike carbon, i think that purigen is a water polisher using a polymeriser, so it makes small particles bind together and the filter removes them, so should be ok unless flourish has lots of suspended solids:dk:

I have used it but never trusted it after "recharging" with bleach.
recharging is safe as. after mine is brow as, i put it in a small bucket with 100% bleach (it recommends less % but it doesnt seem to work as well) after its been in there for a day or 2 i take it out and rinse it out and put it in another bucket with some PRIME at a double dosage. after that i rinse and add to tank and dose with prime. never had any issues
