Hi all. :hi:

I've always loved seeing big plecos in the aquarium shops and have been wanting one of my own for a long time but unfortunately I only had a small tank until now. I have a custom built 2 1/2 foot tank.
I never knew there were so many different species of pleco until i started doing my research. I had only ever seen common, albino, longfin, pepermint and marble bristlenose and common, albino and sailfin/gibby plecos. Now I'm even more interested than I was before after finding all these new species!

My brother has a larger tank than me and recently bought a sailfin. As much as I'd love to have a large pleco, I just don't have the room. The zebras caught my interest, naturally, but I am an apprentice and don't have that kind of money available.
A lot of the striped and spotted ones and quite pretty but I just need to find one (or two!) that's within my budget. I also like the look of the big white spot pleco and the cactus plecos.
My next issue would be finding breeders nearby!

I've found so much information on this site. Any advice would be great! :D

Hi C8lyn, welcome :) there are quiet a few options when deciding on what to get, but unfortunately for aussies, some of them are expensive. Have a look at the pleco profiles, some great info available.

:hi: Hi and welcome to plecoplanet.
i guess one of the easiest and least expensive plecs to find over there would be peppermint bn's, these would be ok in a 2 1/2 foot tank, also some small hypancistrus or small panaque would be ok too but may be harder to get hold of.
you could probably only have 2 in that size tank though.

How big do the Peppermints get? Do they have another name because I can't find them in the Pleco Profiles.
