Got home tonight to find my L190 dead. He's been completely normal, eating, chomping on wood. No visable signs of anything wrong, not skinny, no marks or anything. No other fish seem to be in trouble. Only new tank mate was a blue ram 3 weeks ago but I had him in quarantine for a month and he's still fine. Tested the water Ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates 15. Did a water change on saturday will do another today just in case and retest tomorrow.

Anybody any clue what might have happened??

no idea sorry, and i'm sorry for the loss.
no idea if the water board were doing any repairs locally towards the end of last week?

Not that I am aware and anyway all the other fish are fine and I have some much more delicate fish.

It's just that I've read on another forum that various members experienced sudden death after feeding cucumber, presumably a lot of cucumber.

No, I actually never feed cucumber - the only time I did it clouded the water so I have avoided it since.

I guess I'll never know what happened

another thing could be rotten or contaminated wood. I have read that sometime when a grub dies in the timber, it makes the wood in that area highly toxic. Will try and find out where. cheers jk

Check your canister? I lost a L204 suddenly and couldn't for the life of me figure it out either till I opened the canister and I had forgotten to take out the carbon filter from several weeks ago.

the best way to describe this is "fish are like people, we dont all live past childhood, most of us make it through to adulthood, and some live thru old age to a ripe 100+ years."
you may have just gotten that child that had cancer and died young!
at 4inches it was still a young pup!!!

thats all i can put it down to....:cry::cry:
