This is my L201 breeding set up

Aquarium: Juwel Delta 150 L
Filtration: Eheim Eco 2036 (650 l/h), plus internal elite Jet Flo (400 l/h) for aeration, Water circulator New wave 2000 (2200 l/h)
Heater: 200 watt Aquael.
Temperature: 28 C
Diet: one tablet of tetra wafers mix in the morning and blood worms at night
W/c: I am about to do regular water change of 20 litres every three days.

The shape of caves are triangular and oval. The length is 10 cm and width is from 2.5 to 3.5 cm.

I have 5x L201 - (4F and 1M). They are from 5.5 cm to 7.5 cm long nad they are about 2 years old. I put there some cherry shrimp just as an indicator of water quality.

Any suggestions? Am I doing everything right? Should I change something?

I would get a extra male
He will abandon the eggs to do the next femail and his interests will be on sex not fry.

Wow that looks a great natural set up :) the great thing about pleco breeding tanks you just cant get enough of a empty looking tank :D

Sounds like your doing everything right

Beautiful setup, i would suggest more cover in the middle though as the most wont venture far from safety, this will increase interaction and speed up the probability of a male trapping.

Well done indeed. Looks just like swimming in the river. Agree though to put some sort of timber or stucture in the middle front, so they would venture out more and feel more securein this empty spot. Hope your little tail is one of many.cheers jk

Yeah, you are right about that open middle space. However, open space in the middle enables smooth water flow towards the main cave site. I am worried that some structure in the middle front would redirect my carefouly planned water flow. I`ll try to put something in the tank.

Thank you for suggestions.

That looks very good! How's about some plant substrate? Similar to amano amazon substrate? Only problem with that particular brand is it triggers an ammonia spike for a few days, I think there are others on the market now that don't. It's very natural looking stuff.

Do you mean like clay substrate or akadama?

Hi all,
Really nice tank, I don't usually like tanks without plants but this one is very good.
This is a good substrate if you want to go planted, it is a calcined clay so it has some CEC (cation exchange capacity), but it hard and doesn't change pH or TDS. If you can get "moler clay oil spillage granules" (or as "lightweight cat litter") they are good as well and very cheap.

Have a look here:<http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/akadama.htm>

I'd be tempted to put some wood in your open space, if you have enough light you could plant it with Java moss (Taxiphyllum) and Java Fern (Microsorum)? and keep your gravel?

cheers Darrel

set up update

I considered all your suggestions and I decided not to go for an akadama, because I consider a gravel more natural looking. I spent whole week with looing for a suitable piece of wood and I think I finaly found it. Java moss constantly clogs my filters, so there`s no way I`d put it in this tank.
