Hi all,
I find both this and the Youtube clip <http://www.plecoplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7271> deeply distressing. I don't understand it either, at least with the fluorescent fish they are captive bred. I've got no interest in Flowerhorns, "fancy" goldfish etc. but some people obviously have and I think it should be up to Governments whether there creation and sale is banned or regulated. All we can do is try and promote a more acceptable side to fish-keeping.

On a happier note, FFMkII's fish is a male Apistogramma baenschii, and I believe he owns a spawning? pair. The spawning female (below) is pretty special too.

They are quite commonly bred in the UK now, and need similar conditions to a lot of Apistogramma sp., soft, acid good quality water and a varied diet.

PFK featured them recently:

Hi all,
I'm afraid that's not my fish
Sorry FFMkII, I know they've been on sale a few times recently, Ste1200 had some sub-adults, and I think "Kesgrave Tropicals" had them listed as well. I also think "Silverdub" had some for sale about a year ago?

They are top of my "want" list they are stunning.

cheers Darrel

Well, at least it's not something that's a physical handicap, like what's been bred into the popeyed, bubble-eyed and black moor goldfish, as far as I can tell this would only inconvenience the fish if they were trying to hide from predators.
But what's next, a fish that looks like a Picasso painting come to life?
At what point does genetic engeneering become animal cruelty, or selective breeding for that matter?
