As title. :(

No plecos in the tank, 4 corys, 2 angels, 1 syno eup, 2 platys and 2 shrimp.

Shall I just follow the instructions in the article below?

http://www.plecoplanet.com/forum/showthread.php?t=648

No heater in the tank, no idea what temp it rus at to be honest, it is in an air conditioned room, will get a thermometer and a heater if necessary.

Can only see what looks like a few spots on the Angels so far so will check again tomorrow to confirm but would rather catch it early.

No idea what meds i can get here, are there generic ingredients I should look for if the ones suggested aren't available?

bugger!!

increased temps are probably the best first step mate, if you can get it up near 30c that should sort it.
would be interesting to see what brands of meds are available over there

i've never been a fan of adding salt, but you may be limited on available meds so may end up going down that road.
the raise in temp if possible may cure it without needing anything else, hopefully the nasty strains of ich that we've seen over recent years aren't present there

don't use any conventional treatment that contains copper (commonly found as copper sulphate) as this will kill the shrimp. some treatments are known that are shrimp safe but i can't think of any off the top of my head. most treatments contain copper as this is what kills the external parasites, and sadly shrimp aswell. trust me i've been there!

I would agree with scatz raise the temp slowly over a few day though if your water is too cold (without a heater) You can use salt but you need to getthe dose right for osmotic reasons. usually 0.25g/L. But just try increasing temp for now see if that clears it. The spots you see means that your fish had ick a cuople of days ago so are coping ok so far, raising the temp will stop the life cycle of ick and should clear it from your tank substrate as well.

Good luck :)

raising the temp WONT stop the life cycle, it just quickens it up.

The reason there is no heater is that Xingu lives in Dubai and chances are he may not need one, so i doubt the water is "cold"

Raising the temp to 30c and increasing the airation will NOT speed up the cycle. It is true that the life cycle of Ick is very temp-dependent but optium temp for the life cycle is between 78-80f, increasing the temp to 30c which is 86f will stop the ick being able to carry out its life-cycle.

The other alternative is to use their temp-dependency to your advantage by getting the temp to optium temp for the ick therefore speeding up their life-cycle and thus meaning any treatment you are using will only be required for the shortest time.

"The reason there is no heater is that Xingu lives in Dubai and chances are he may not need one, so i doubt the water is "cold" "

He also mentioned the tank is kept in an air-conditioned room hence why i suggested the water might be slighlt colder than usuall.

cheers

Update - Crazy at work so I haven't had the chance to get either a Thermometer or Heater.

The other half picked up some JBL 'Punktol Ultra'

Ingredients are

- Malachite Green Oxalate
- Crystal Violet
- Methylene Blue

Arrived home last night with the intention of dosing half suggested strength before I checked the ingredients on here and the whitespots on the Angels are completely gone!

No sign of any on any other fish so I am a bit of loss really.

Good result I think, perhaps it wasn't Ick after all?

Through the week they never lost appetite or showed any other symptons of illness and it was only the 2 Angels I could see spots on.

Will keep an eye on them obviously but hesistant to dose when I can see no signs of anything wrong.

Mike

Edit - here is the worst affected.. not a spot on him!
