I have noticed this past week my heater light has been going on alot more than normal , temp is always set at 79d, and thermometer always reads correct. The house temp is same as last winter, so I am concerned . Can't find the paperwork for it ,bought 3 yrs ago, think it's a Rena, .
So , could it be a sign it's ready to quit ? not very knowledgeble about them. Input appreciated. thanks , Georgie

I would change it for the small sum of £20 your going to save every fish from a possible death.
If the heater failed you stand a chance of spotting it. If it boiles then you going to be lucky to spot it before they are all dead.
I keep plenty of spare heaters and chnge the old ones every 3 years.
If you can get the old Fluval heaters they IMO are about as good as you can get

Any time after 2 years I have found 3 years is fine but tend to do it on a 2 year span now
For some one just keeping a tank indoors that they can keep an eye on 3 years or up to 5 would be fine but me I do it every 2 years as i can spend 3 or 4 days not going in the fish house.
