Hi, as advised in the new member section I am posting here.
I have a Leopard Frog which has developed a nasty patch on the back of it's head. It is greeny brown in colour and has what appears to be very short strands of something growing from it.
I have had it for about 3 months and all has been well up to now.
The water perimeters are

PH 7.5
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5ppm
Water temp 25
It shares the tank with Mollies, Platy's, Tetras and a small Red Tailed Black Shark.
I did loose several fish over Christmas to white spot but this has now cleared up.
Can any one give me any idea what the problem is and how to cure it?
Thanks for your time
Phil.

Hi Phil,

Some other questions for you. How did you treat your white spot ? Does the mark look like a burn mark or is it like cotton. Does it look like bite marks ( possibly form the shark ) Any chance you catch him and place is a large jar and take a photo from the top or close up , it is hard to tell from such an angle ? thks jk

Looks like a heater burn or if there had been other plecs in there I would say possibly munched on. Do you use heater guards or does it like to sit under the heater?

Just keep the water nice and clean and hopefully it will come good. I've had froggies with more damage than that from fighting and trapping and with good water they have returned to normal health and pattern :D

Thanks for your replies. I have a Jewel Rio 180 litre tank with the heater inside the filter housing so I don't think it can heater burn. No other plecs in the tank and the shark isn't big enough to worry him, less than 2 inches.
I will try and get a better picture later.
The white spot wasn't treated as such. I increased the temp in the tank to 29 C for 2 weeks and treated with crushed garlic twice a week for 2 weeks. All signs have now gone and all the other fish are healthy.

Garlic is presumed known in the L treatment as a type of booster against infection and disorders. If you use crushed garlic on vegies or on their own, the Ls just relish it. It has been thought to be of benefit to assist the imune system...cheers jk

Well, I was sat watching the fish this afternoon and noticed that one of my dalmatian mollies biting at the injury on the back of his head. No sooner had he moved away but my Red Tailed Black Shark then had a go. Have I found the cause of the injury do you think or a is it them just attacking him because of the injury. I have now separated him from all the other fish so hopefully he can start to recover.

With any injury like that, I tend to grab the Waterlifes Myxazin bottle and dose the tank. I had a male L134, almost had his tail chewed off but with a bit of myxazin help and nice clean water it has healed quite well and in half the time it would take without treatment.

For fungal illness, Protozin is the better treatment and it contains quite a lot of the beneficial ingredients that Myxazin has.

That's what I have used.

could well be the mollies picking on him.
i always thought mollies had different water requirements to plecs,
the l134 will be more comfortable if ph under 7
