Hi,

They like extremely fine sand, look up as much as you can on the net or other loach sites. Good luck with your venture and breeding....cheers jk

Hi all,
If you are having a go at breeding I'd definitely join "Loaches Online". I don't keep any Loaches, but I have a look at their forum every now and then, because it has all sorts of good stuff on there. <http://www.loaches.com/species-index/acantopsis-choirorhynchus>.

I think probably more loach species are breedable than the literature suggests, I know a couple of people who have had Kuhli Loaches (Pangio kuhlii) breed in the tank.

cheers Darrel

Maybe you should get a few more horseface loaches to ensure you have both sexes
i do not have the tank space for more and i may aim was to get them to keep the tank clean and if they bred then far enough i am a plec man at heart and will always like them over any other fish.At the moment i want to get money from my fish amd not to keep spending it as i got no job yet :wb:

:woohoo: Clown Plecs to breed lol :woohoo:

Then maybe you should have not bought clown plecs. Given that they are not the easiest to breed and if you do manage to breed them then the fry will go for a maximum of what? £3each?

yes but it is more interesting to get fish that are harder to breed and i know a guy who will take the plecs off me .... so you work it out 8*3 and what would u want me to breed i am 19 no job at the moment and live with my parents the plecs were £40 each and i got them with my bday money i was gonna get chocolate zebras but pets at home had none left and i could not find them any where else

£40 each?
You sure what you've got are clowns?
Around here they're about $8 each. Definitely need to get a good id on them as it'll help with you're breeding eforts as not all plecs require the same techniques.

Clown plecs around £6 each here. £40 i was going to say!

Thing is about them clown plecs although they are harder to breed they are just as hard to sell! Quite frankly you would have been better off with bristlenose. Definately L144, L183 or L181. L182 are a lot more common and dont seem to sell well either.

Good luck with the breeding.

I would tend to agree. With the amount of effort that goes into breeding Clowns, the return isn't very good. More attention & effort is required in terms of water conditions required for spawning, brood sizes are smaller & growth is slower. In the end, I'm not sure there is actually money to be made. That's probably a big reason that they are still wild caught & not farmed.

They probably would be. Not as difficult to get spawning as Clowns can be. There are other Hypans as well that might be good. Try looking at breeders rather than a LFS for your stock. You might have to travel but you'd get better quality fish at a better price than you might at a store. Also, captive bred fish would be easier to get spawning themselves.
