Hi and sorry that this has occured again, however just our of curiosity, why when you clean do you remove the caves and Ls in the cave ? Did you clean the whole tank or just the routine water change and gravel vac ? I onlt ask, because whenever I do a clean I never touch or move my caves etc, just gravel vac and water change?
What did the male do in the past ? If he ate or kicked them out I would remove and place in a fry saver, if not I would observe .

cheers jk:thumbup:

No gravel slate tiled bottom, water change & filter clean!

I tip them out now & again because the female gets battered & bruised by the male sometimes & need to know whether she is ok & I need to treat the tank!

He's a good dad booted the eggs out 1st attempt but every batch after has been looked after & hatched :)

ok thanks for that. Suppose then that is a risk you will have everytime you clean the tank. It however sounds like you have a good dad , as you state, he still looks after his batch . cheers jk

I have gravel substrate , less than 2'' thick. I clean/vacuum the entire tank every Friday, when I do this , EVERYHING comes out of the tank, wood, rocks, caves, plants, except the fish. So this is not necessary ? Got 54g corner, 2 HOB filters and 2 hyrdra sponge filters inside, plus 2 8'' air stones. I thought gas pockets could develop under things, so complete vacuum... am I overdoing it ? thanks, Georgie

fish: 2 x L128 (aprox 4'' and 3'')
farlowella
3 rainbow
4 barbs
9 harlequin raspboras
move this if in wrong thread

My breeding tanks get a strip down and clean every few month’s or so when I remove the fry.
I have removed caves with fish and eggs, pairs spawning and some just carry on after, some eat the eggs and some just kick the eggs out.
I have one group of Hypan Variant A1 and the male will eat the eggs if any movement happens near the tank, so no peeking or checking on this lot.

I used to panic and try to save eggs fry ECT, cover tanks with cloths and all sorts of stuff.
Now they just get on with it and I scope out and let nature carry on.
Naturally I watch and observe a new group to check on behaviour and activity but once they have started the spawning its all up to them.

good luck with the eggs! well done must have the water just right.

zeebo - is it undergravel filter at all (not sure what HOB is? ). if not maybe you could have a little less gravel. certainly dont need to take everything out, just move from one end to the other maybe once a month. (thick sand needs more attention.).
If you are trying to breed I would not move things more than you need to.
