Your question has been answered. Whats the point anyway? you probably have already put fish in it. You said you were taking the advice to leave the sand but look after you tank properly and obviously never done that. Why bother asking?

Water is the most important if you look after the water well your fish will thrive. Many people have different substrates although sand is by far the best in my opinion.

Although I have a tank with gravel mainly because I have not had the time to convert it to sand but the important thing is stability. I do not switch back and forth with sand and gravel I stick with gravel and do the regular job of siphoning and moving the gravel when doing water changes.

This has worked fine for me because I do regular water changes just remember to keep up with those water changes and gravel vac swapping the substrate on a regulkar basis however will stress the fish.

So when you said "ok thanks bigbird will take ur adivice on board mate"

You didnt mean thats what you were going to do? I dont get why you ask and ask and ask then do what you want anyway, knowing full well its NOT in the best interest of the fish, because many have told you it isnt.
Stop being selfish and look after the fish. If you dont know what you need to do and you ask the questions then great and thats what you do but when people tell you whats best for the fish and you go and do you really expect people to offer you help and advice after blatently doing something thats not in the best interest of the fish.

Im not starting an arguement. You could have cleaned the sand by stiring it and doing water changes when it was stirred. But you were told that at the time. Now you have lost all the bacteria in the substrate. Dont get me wrong im not arguing they are your fish and you can do what you like. Just dont make out you done it with the interest of the fish in mind. YOU NEVER because it wasnt in the best interest of the fish and you were told. I wont comment on this anymore, Good luck.
