I thought I'd share a method I've found to get your filter media squeaky clean. I've found it excellent for cleaning very dirty or soiled foam/sponge media as the water blast is so powerful it completely removes all dirt, and fast. There are a couple of hazards like getting wet, potentially hurting yourself and shredding the foam/sponge. But it's a great way to return your media to new.

But obviously don't wash your main biological media or too much at a time.

Before and after, just like new.

Our washing machine broke down once due to wire from Bras, tights and assorted items of female clothing.
I was presented with a very small bit of blue sponge and told” Your fish stuff has destroyed our 30 year old washing machine” I had to sign a promise to never use any house hold equipment to clean any fish related item ever again, no dish washer to clean filter trays, no sink to wash gravel and sand & no pots to boil rocks ect.
So now every thing gets done on a day were the dear Sturmbannführer is away at work.

Heeheeeee, just got my wife to read this post. I think I have done nearly everything you have listed above, boiling bogwood in pots, using the shower and bath for water changes etc.

My wife told me, never again or the fish go. But then in the same breath, lets me buy a 4 ft rack system to go in the living room, so I think she likes the fish really, just won't admit it.

I get the same hassle from my husband, '' what are you cooking on the stove ? '' ummm , wood and rocks ... and I am not allowed to use the dishwasher for fish related items also, and use same pot now for any boiling . He totally freaks if he finds a pc of gravel in the drain catch. UGHH..

I guess they just don't get it.:dk:

Yes Amazing aint it?

The small bit of foam or a tiny grain of sand send them screaming about "Damage to the structure of the universe"
