I'm shortly going to be getting 1 x Eheim ecco pro 300 external for my Juwel Rio 180 and 2 x Eheim ecco pro 200's for my Juwel rio 125 and rekord 96.

As I will run these aswell as my internal Juwel internal filters do I need to cycle them in a bucket or can I have them running in their respective tanks as the Juwel ones are already in place and are cycled. :dk:

The best way to cycle them is to have them running alongside the Juwel filters...They will soon colonize with bacteria, so no need to cycle in a bucket first...Btw they are excellent filters.
Thanks for that, I have been looking for a while at the different Eheims, I was going for the 2224 but my lfs said the Ecco Pro 300 was more user friendly.

Your Lfs is correct  The ecco is more user friendly due to the priming system which is missing on the 2224...One thing I would advise tho, is to keep the pipework cleaned in a regular basis or you will find flow drop off.

Cheers, I have recently read a thread about cleaning the pipes.

Mmm the filters should be fine to cycle along the internal ones which are pretty good anyway, you would only need the external ones for some real extra boost.

Cheers for that, I have my Albino Ancistrus in the Rio 180 and there must be about 150 - 200 of them in there at the moment, so I need more filtration.

My lfs are going to be having some of them next week in exchange for 50 Cardinal Tetra's  for my main tank. (It's looking bare in there with 7 L270's which you never see, and a load of cherry shrimp)

one thing with these filters is keep the area where the handle fits the canister well coated in vasaleen, also make sure the head and canister are fully lined up.i fitted my motor head one night in a rush and broke a little bit of plastic within the handle.filter still works fine but my handle can now pop off when priming
filters run on very little power ;o)
