So today i noticed some white tiny tiny wormy looking things on my grow out tank glass and also jumping around my sponge filter, they are very hard to see but i can deff notice them up close.

What are they? in my many many years of keeping fish i have never ever come across them....The l333 and l002's in the tank seam ok, nothing on them as far as i can see ....How can i treat the tank against them? i havent added any new fish or plants, that is an exclusive grow out tank for these L's, the babys have only lived in there for about 3weaks.

HELLP GANG PLEASE....:dk::dk::dk:

They will probably be planaria worms...Give the gravel a good clean as these tend to be more visible when there is an abundance of excess food lying about...They are harmless, but need to be kept in check by good tank maintenance.

Dang!!!! i just looked them up and yep shure looks like them....but i due have some doubts since i due daily 20% water changes in the tank with vacum siphon and ALWAYS remove any uneaten food the next morning after the nightly feed.

BTW i just put a UV filter in there to see if it will help kill them off .....will it?

THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP ...

I doubt if the uv would kill them. They would have to pass over the uv light, even tiny things like ich are hard to kill, also the flow that passes over the uv light has to be very accurate.

Is there an area of tank that maybe you can not vacuum, under bogwood or rocks, that food could get trapped under?

I find they occur when one overfeeds . Depending on what fish you have I ould feed less or only every 2nd day for a week and also do 10-20% water changes for the next 7-8days. This should clear them. cheers jk :thumbup:

Have you got sand? I had those horrible things, I reduced feeding and took some of the sand out and now they have gone. I think reducing the amount of sand helped alot, I obviously wasn't able to clean it with so much in there.

I have about 4cm of black granit gravel(2mm), i really dont feed much at all since the only fish in there are the baby L333's and the L002's they ony get one wafer just before lights out, or 5 peas, or one round cut of zukini depending on the weekday. I have noticed alot of poop under the driftwood so that is why i have been vacumming on a daily basis along with my daily water change 10-20%.

As far as the uv filter goes the one i put in there, its a Blue planet unit, its one of the ones that have there one little pump to have correct exposure time for the water passing trough it, so i think that should be ok.

Yup planaria is a pain but if you keep the food excess done they usually run their course and disappear.
They could also be flatworms which may have come in on driftwood or plants. They are harmless and just have to be tolerated as well. If I see them while siphoning the tank I suck em out but they can stick to the inside of a siphon pretty good so make sure you rinse it out and dont transfer them to another tank.

Or you can nuke em with a wormer and do two jobs at once, I have used Panacur25 to kill off and Planaria & worm my 397's at the same time,
You will have to google the dose rate...I am hopeless, I & have to look it up every time I use it..:/

Thanks all for these posts. Just found our first tiny worms last night and was looking for a diagnosis and/or cure. Good to know that the fish are not affected as I have hundreds of babies in the tank. Sounds like the remedy is to minimise food wastage and more regular water changes.
