Hi all,
Yes up the water changes and use "Prime" or "Amquel" as your water conditioner, these will complex any ammonia and should stop you getting too much of a spike. I'd also up the aeration a bit, as the NH3 - NO2 - NO3 reactions use oxygen, so more ammonia present will use more oxygen. This is actually how pollution is measured scientifically, as the total Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biochemical_oxygen_demand"]Biochemical oxygen demand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] & [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wastewater_quality_indicators"]Wastewater quality indicators - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

You may find you get a flush of plant growth, because of the extra ammonia (even if it is all complexed and ends up as nitrate). Plants preferentially take up ammonia (over nitrate) which is one reason why planted tanks are more resilient than un-planted ones and why phyto-filters are so effective.

cheers Darrel

think the extra water changes worked.no sign of staghorn and the water test for ammonia was clear.still no body tho..:dk:
tempted to keep the 10% wc a day, tank is looking better for it,the fish seam to be more active to.
