hi,ive just done a water change on my edge, for those who don,t know its a sealed tank with a small opening in the top for filter etc.the tank is filled to the top, like a 3D tank.
old pic.
i ran out of water when topping up so ive left a small gap from the top off the water to the top off the glass, around 10mm.
added 2 flaoting plants to see if they grow, but the interesting thing is that the very shy rasboras are all out now,and have been for aroud 10 mins.
ive never seen them out for this long before.
would the gap at the top of the tank, like a normal tank, explain this??
ps did a water test yesterday and all is ok,water temp ok.

After reading other posts about CO2 and floating plants and I think there was another one about access to CO2 if you seal the top of the tank, will the edge's design not pose the same problems, especially for floating plants.

Not sure why the fish would decide to come out.

Tank inside does look nice, always been a bit unsure about edge's because of the issue with access and the lighting but looks pretty good.

edit:

do you find problems with the light only being very centred for plants. Is it a halogen? just wondering what the spectrum is from those compared to plant specific lighting.

hi,the lights in the pic are LED ones, but i found that it was too bright for the rasboras and they also burnt the plants a little.
i now use the standerd ones, not good for high light plants witch is wy there is only java ferns and a cript and some moss in there.the plants are growing, slowly and the fish come out more when i use these lights.

nice tank by the way. i would say, that that is the reason why they come out. My view is if you fill to the top of the glass, the fish do not see this as the horizon and maybe think they are in a cube and thus are unable to know where up and down is so to speak. Since you lowered the water level, they can now see up top the level and thus feel more secure. Hope I make sense, if not well sorry and glad they came out. cheers jk
