I used to keep ABNs. The male could breed with multiple females at the same time as long as the cave was big enough for all of them. What a pain trying to get rid of all those ABN fry. Almost have to wrap each of them in dollar bill so someone would take them.

its not always about the money. I used to give mine away, it was more the joy of seeing kids pick them up for free. cheers jk :thumbup:

Yea, that was from me adding in 2 9cm 2 year old females for him. The third gave up, I'm pretty sure the tubes too full. Ill grab some photos Sunday when both batches should hatch. And more in 3 weeks when the sides of my tank are white XD

That's a nice batch. Ill be lucky to recover 150, I was more excited to see the number of white to brown that would come in a batch that large. Also for some reason it's happened the last 6 of his lays something always happens to end up happening and I lose them at best 3 days after hatching. Last time it was a kribensis cichlid getting them through the keeper net. I'm destined to never see a ABN be spawned and mature in my tanks

Maybe 50 eggs, I seperated the ruined ones and have the good ones in a make shift tumbler, 4 days of incubation hopefully it's too quick for fungus to show it's head.

Well maybe I find sometimes when there's too many females in te tank they seem to wanna get goin again, more quickly then they can even cater for. My peps are shocking my male will double lay the two to three days he's kicked the whole lay now I dot give them a choice I will remove the eggs and raise them myself in a tumbler or hatchery with some air for the little ones have you tried that ? Maybe is he a young dad he may still be learning ?

He'd be 3 year old and I stopped taking the males off the eggs after I lost a few real good breeders from shock. Last summer I hatched over a thousand fry with just an air stone and a half foot cube tank and a few pond snails, unfortunately I can't run that tank in the winter as it'd be a nightmare to heat.
I'm down to only 2 viable eggs :( find out tomorrow if they made it, also lost a one of the massive girls who laid that batch, 2 year old virgin bristlenose don't handle blasting out 150 eggs in one whack well.

Aww no I'm sorry to hear what a shame !
That's awful and only 2 eggs you poor thing. I wish I could offer you a female I don't have any spares. Not until I move house will I know exactly what longfins breeders I'm keeping and can move on either );
Shocking.
I don't mind winter my fish are in my bedroom I renovated te garage and decked it out with insulation so winter doesn't fase them haha.

It's awesome having them in your bedroom, keeps the room warm always :D
Well, checked the fry saver today and the snails I threw in to keep the fungus down have eaten the 2 remaining eggs. This fish always brings this bad luck. Nothing I could do but laugh. Knew I should of deployed shrimp rather then the heavy armour XD

Hahahahaha, I got a massive 0 fry out of that lay XD life's such a *****.
Continuing with this dispite the losses. 2 more 8-10cm albino females are being added tonight. I've removed the third female from the tank and the common female as well to keep the albinos pure. Hopefully with just 2 girls he should double batch and not be too excited and finish the job this time. I agree maybe he was too excited by the prospect of the third.
