Haha, i am sure Cat won't miss a pair. You got an old pair of tights you don't use anymore then?
Tights should be ok, you can put it anywhere in the filter, on top is easiest and yes I have used it......very good stuff and it's rechargeable but I have never had the bottle to put it back in my tank after soaking it in bleach for 24 hours lol.
Hmm didnt think about the recharging, was going to just untie the tight and pour it in, then use a fresh one (this could cost the missus a bit in hosiery!).I use it and sell it. The bags are very expensive due to the type of material they are made with...This is to withstand the bleach baths at recharging...I have never tried tights, but they may work ok
Going to pop down this afternoon, see how much it is, if they have the bags and if they have Prime.I find its best to recharge with the cheapest bleach you can find, not the big brands as they take too much effort to get rid of bleach residue.
Chris, thanks, appreciate the input.Hi,
I've been using Purigen for some time now and after reading this there are some things that I thought I best let you know about.
Although they say that Purigen can be regenerated, which it can, its not infinite. Typically about 8 regenerations is all its really good for as it looses about 5% of its effectiveness each time. However the good news is that it lasts way longer than 2 weeks but I suppose this really is subjective and largely depends on the tank its used on.
Purigen is susceptible to fouling and some dechlorinaters and all stress coat type products render Purigen useless, or more specifically unable to be regenerated. So IMO stick to Prime as then you know that you won't get it wrong. Also as previously mentioned use the thinnest cheapest bleach you can buy and ensure that its unscented.
The granules of Purigen are to fine to be put into stockings or normal filter bags and some particles will seep through these type of materials. Trust me I learnt the hard way. The last thing you want is thousands of tiny plastic granules loose in your tank. IMO if your not buying the small packs that come in a bag already then bite the bullet and pay the extra tenner for 'the bag' that Seachem also sell specifically for use with Purigen.
Purigen is normally used as the final stage of filtration unless of course your also using a UV filter.
By now you'll probably have noticed that using this stuff is not a cheap option. But used correctly it'll last quite a while.
Chris.
Thanks again, will do the required googling!Hi,
I believe the problem occurs if the dechlorinator that is used is based on an amine polymer. Some dechlorinators use this polymer in there chemical make up but not all. So as long as you manage to source a dechlorinator without it in you'll be ok.
A quick web search should sort you out.
Chris.
No bud, Scobi, L253.Hi Xingu,
I keep looking at that plec in you signature. That is one seriously good looking fish mate, is it an inspector?
For the record Zeb's don't really appeal to me either.
