finally my zebs have bred!:woohoo:
he has been fanning for a few days and I have one very beaten up zeb so guess was either a male fight or female that had been savagely mated!
today dad kicked out 3 wrigglers, lucky i was sitting having a cuppa and noticed! one is dead -(the sad bit) and the other two I have put in fry saver so hope they are healthy. not sure why the baby died, anyway at least I could take him out and take a photo.

thanks. I am just so chuffed I have a breeding pair now.
I have been trying to sex them and not confident other than one clear male, what the rest were. I posted up here and got differing opinions, they are not easy to sex unless showing every feature well, but mainily mine seem in-between as it were.
I have tried different tanks, different water, temps, dailt w/c verses neglect.. different groupings etc and was beginning to wonder if I was ever going to get there. I keep looking at the 2 in the fry saver and pinching myself.

apparently, the first spawn is the hardest one to get, should be a lot easier next month now, fingers crossed anyway

i did hope especially as he seemed to be fanning still. but he is out and about feeding now so none left.
There are 6 zebs in the tank, if there is another female in there will she breed with another male or will no one else breed while the Alpha is there?
should I think about removing some of the non breeding ones to another tank to see if they will breed away from the alpha??

Congratulations

So what was the secret this time to make them spawn?

hi, this morning there was only one fry alive, but quite lively. will take pics in a few days if he survives, a bit fragile to shock with flash i think just yet.
not really sure what triggered it, maybe just an extra w/c -and the warmer weather after a storm. they are in my front porch and althought no lights on thetank they get a bit of morning sunshine on the tank, which this time of year probably puts the temp up half a degree maybe. sometimes I stand a chair to keep the sun off them if its been very sunny.
I have also been lowering the tds a bot so its about 100 -120 ppm region
they are in a 90L jewel tank with a larger power head than standard for that tank and an extra internal filter with UV.

WooHoo - Congrats!

Our first spawn had a few kicked out - they turned out to be deformed... the rest that the dad didnt kick out were fine (well they were perfectly formed) still didnt make it though... BUT the hard part is done now :)

From experience don't mess with the group they will stop spawning a case of "if it aint broke don't fix it" made the mistake myself in the past also know Russ will back me on this one too
Definatly... we have been in our new house nearly a year now.... and ours havent spawned since the move :(
