Hi!

Please help!

I discovered last week that one of my plecos had had babies! As they were leaving the ornament they were hiding in I noticed they were been eaten rapidly by the angel fish so…………
I have moved the ornament and the babies and father to a smaller tank today with the water from my bigger tank – its set at about 24 degrees and I have placed some cucumber in the little tank. I have about 10 babies swimming about (One has died) and the father is still hiding in the ornament …Why!!?? - Is there more babies to come out?

Please give me some advice of what to do as I am clueless and I want my new babies to survive!

Also the filter is not working but I have a air pump in - is that ok until I get to the pet shop?

My little babies are apx 3/4 inch long and seem very healthy!:woohoo:

Thanks

Oh and the father is definately a bristlenose plec and the mother is either a sailfin or a albino bristlenose plec - the babies are dark brown with white markings on them?

Thanks again x

it is always hard to raise fry in a community tank. You are correct in moving the fry. Add and airstone also for movement. They need clean water. Father is probably still in there because you might have more inside. 2nd option is for you to remove the whole ornament with the father in the fry tank, make sure you have the same water. Thus he can raise the fry on his own as well. good luck and keep us informed. cheers jk

hi well done
dad may even be on more eggs
yes will be BNs, they dont breed with sailfins.
get filter as soon as you can and do small (10-20%) water changes every other day or so, cos they will pollute the water fairly quickly and I am guessing its a small tank.
add some flakes as well as veg for fry and if poss a bit of wood to suck on and hide under.
good luck

Babies still breathing!!!

Hi All

Thanks so much for your info - I moved all the babies into a little tank along with papa still in the ornament (where he still is!) We have about 19 little babies chomping happily on zucinni and wafers and are all about 3/4"
. I have set the temp apx 25/26 and have only had one baby death since Monday and the rest are doing great! Oh and I am doing a daily quarter water change.
I have 3 stuck in the big community tank (impossible to get out)...Well 2 now as I saw the angel fish gulp one down whole this morning ...sob!

I will post some pics later when my boyfriend brings his decent camera x

Thanks all x

Oh and it is a pink eyed albino x

good news,
if he is not coming out there is every chance he has more eggs in there.
just hope the ones in cumminity tank grow bigger so angel cant eat them. make sure they have loads of cover, they should be able to hide under wood and escape being eaten
