Bn refusing to breed

A typing error 73 L's here.
Trios work best for BN's unless you have plenty of space and cave and hiding spots.
Best results have been with trios followed by pairs than multi trio/pairs.

I have peppermints that look like breeding and i was not thinking they will be ready for another year as most peoples reports say they neeed to be 3 years and over 10 cms.Mine are 22 months and the only male i think is fanning in the cave i put in two days ago and he's only around 7-8 cms.The females are around same size, another possible male is up other end of tank under a fern laced rock pile.
I think the kribs will need to come out of the tank as the caving one is lashing out at passing traffic.
There in a community display tank the cave i placed in there for the kribs maybe i'll have to place them in a breeder now?

I agree with Brengun, if you have two females you can sometimes get trouble with eggs being kicked out when the second female tries to get into the cave when the male is on eggs. I have had success with two pairs in the same tank. Most males I ever had in one colony was 5. All breeding in their own caves. Was crazy and things soon got out of hand.

i also think they look on the young side not saying that they wont breed at this size but dont rush them with big water changes to often!
but when you think she is just right start
daily WC of 15% ea day for about 2 weeks then stop for a week then a small one then a big 50% one this is good to get them ready and they will breed !
like said before good feed

im thinking the second pic of female could be a young male ? even tho it has a belly?
best of luck
ps the best advice to me was dont worry about them do the wc's feed and thats it before you know it you have forgoten about them and then bam male has fry in cave !

tahetpm, your BNs are not common BNs but look like one of the spotted peppermint or starlight type. to identify them you need some 'in the tank' photos with dorsal fin raised so can count the rays in it. have a look at profiles of L071 and L182 for example. Also have to make sure the male and female are same species if they have come from different sources.

might help if there is a back to that white cave? my friend i understand you completly. mine never bred for 1 and a half years, then out of no where.. no signs, no trapping, the female layed. i didnt know that they bred until i saw a tiny but fully formed fry! :woohoo:
try darkening the cave and cave entrance. mine bred in a terracotta cave that was vase shaed. it goes very tight at the entrance. i found that leaving the tank for 2 weeks, then doing a large water change (50%) will get them jiggy  dont give up mate, they will get it on soon. my female before spawning looked huge, i mean when viewed from the top she looked about 10 cm long, and 5 cm wide!! gooluck mate :)
