Some clarification on changing tanks. If you fill the 2ft with water from your main tank and use a seeded filter there should be no issues with moving the fry sooner. You will generally only run into problems when transferring young fry into different water conditions - i.e two set up tanks with water parameters that don't match.

As for you having another female ready to go - haha, the fun is just beginning! I told you you would need a bigger grow out tank :)

hey :) how did the move go ?
your male should be with the fry for about a week or so, then take him out with the cave and place him in his own tank, after a week in there do a water change, that will set the other female into breeding mode :) and him to allow her in, a good male will breed as little as 3 weeks from fry leaving the cave.
just make sure you have food in there for the fry they will eat non stop :)

i checked after a clean and probaly around 30-50
not bad for a first spawn in my tank, but i must say why are they already 1cm+ ?

i didn't take them out, the dad seems fin as its the big terracota pots split in half with glass base,

the fry are doing fine better than i expected their all hanging on to the sides and top at the back,
should i take them out now?

cheers

yes it will be fine there big enought im guessing your male is like mine he keeps fanning till they all leave so im guessing 2 weeks but at 1 cm there more like 4 weeks so no problem feed them right away !
congrats

it was big surpise,
there's heaps, the whole cave wall is covereed with them, it could of been that they were every so it looked like 1cm but i am sure i saw one at 1cm once again thanks jack,

he seems to be more interested in looking after the fry than breeding which is good, i dont want them to breed everyday,
hes been a good dad so far, but isn't fanning as much now, the fry aren't in his way for now so hes not angry or anything
the actual cave is 20cm long and they can also hide on the top which is 7cm high

hey,
could be the second spawn, i know they are kinda black to grey, but i'm sure they spawned last week, i watched it the male at the top female at the bottom,
all wriggling around,
they did why washing the tanks does little buggers

have a look if they have developed to a fish with a big belly -rather than an egg with a tail, then see if you can get them out into saver.
you may find you cant get all of them out, but dont over stress them -even some of them out will stop them getting eaten. get the rest out the next day.
let us know how you get on.

Isnt the container in a larger tank? If it is a normal style fry saver changing the water in the tank will frlow through into the saver.

If this isnt the case, please explain your setup in more detail

I would syphon poo and w/c every day if you can, if not then every other day. do w/c at tank temp or thereabouts so no shock to babies
