dont give up, you are so close. patience is needed.
try to add a backing to the tank even if its only a black bin bag and try and do a w/c every day even if its just a bucket out and a bucket in.
whatever you are eating at night give the fish some of teh veg -eg a few peas (with skin off) or a bit of cabbage leaf etc.
good luck

yes thats good continue for about 7-10 more days then do a big 50% WC avoid lights and feed them well

p.s. where is your tank placed ?
is it near light were alote of foot trafic or lots of noise ie dog cars ?

Try dropping ph down to 6.6-6.2 with water changes.
The females dont seem overly egg bound there size is at starting size to breed size place driftwood on caves and turn to rear off tank.
Let nitrate level hit 40 parts aleast and change with water 4-10 degrees cooler with ph .4 lower than tank.repeat each day 10-20 percent.
Ph can go as low as 5.6 so dont worry to much. ( mine are at 6.2 25.5 4 kh 6gh.
Lights dont matter as long as you give 10 hours darkness when breeding.
1 male to 2-3 females is best i would get a secound small tank and split group.

The tank is in the garage so cars get parked in there but there isnt much traffic at all because once the garage is closed its darkness for a good 8 hrs or so this isnt including over night

Well it has been 5 days so far and in syndey its starting to rain so im thinking of doing the big water change tomorrow if it does rain tomorrow as welll opinions

good luck, let us know any progress. I assume no more have died?
No more have died but it will be hard to say since there is 7 in there and i have added another big piece of drift wood. I have noticed the males arent even going in the caves now?? I have also noticed that a long fin female is very payle and white not sure why???

I would be concerned about exhaust fumes.

maybe they need some light for a few hours a day?
just get a bedside lamp, with a 'daylight' bulb and a timer?
without light no algae grows which they like to graze on.
sounds like something is still wrong in the tank!
keep on with those water changes.]
what water conditioner are you using?

can you re-test the ph? have you removed the shell?

I havent removed the shell but i thought that will help add some buffer and stabalise the pH

another female has died and it looks like another one is becoming pale and about to as well

i will test the ph and so forth

hmmm, cant see much on the dead one to identify illness, the red face on the next would make me think bacterial infection. may not hurt to add some melafix.

could be some vitamin deficiency or some water polutant or toxin in your mains water?
I would remove the barnacle as it maybe leaching something. if you want some natural buffer if water is too acid or too soft then add some egg shells.

what do you do when you w/c? do you mix water and stand it, or straight from atap to tank or what? do you use a bucket or hose?
tell us more about your water if you can.
I dont suppose you have access to RO water?

Every morning i take out 10% of water, in the afternoon i put the 10% water back in. I get the water from the tap which i can make hot or cold i try to make them temperature same as in the tank, I put some safe in it its the powered form of prime, then i add this product called Kh 7+ which stabilizes my Ph at 7 by placing the kH at 4 so the pH doesn't move. Then i siphon it straight into the tank

oh dear.
yes add some melafix, it wont hurt it is only a natural plant extract. maybe add some pimafix too. it is possible there is some infection that is spreading.
for your w/c I would mix the new bucket in the morning and leave to stand till eve when you add it. this allows the buffering to stabalise. It will not matter that the water is by then cold, just add it in slowly. the colder water actually encourages breeding. I only add water the same temp when I have eggs or young fry and dont want to shock them.
do not add a second male. this will cause fighting and distract the males from thoughts of mating.

I would do a small change each day before adding the melafix...
Thats what i have done 10% water change for 6 days day 7 i have completed a 50% water change the tempreture in the tank droped 5-6 degrees celsius and then i have added 10ml of melafix and 5ml or primafix
