My L114/600 is about 6cmSL and is mad for all kinds of veg, whatever, where ever. Has a go at algae wafers (hikari) but doesn't seem to like prawn and seems to have gone off massivore as well. will the wafers give him the protien needed to grow well or is there something else I should try? or is it a phase in his growth?

hikari wafers do have a fair amount of protein (for a veg wafer), have you tried mussel? mine would go nuts for them, much more than they would prawn or dry foods

He has to grow what 5 or 6 times that size to adult? Many of the young plecos do eat a lot of vegetable content while young. I have found the Hikari algae wafer fits that requirement well. Still add a tiny treat of meaty foods but make the algae wafers a staple for a while.

I haven't tried mussels for the reason that pollution here is rampant, shellfish isn't recommended for human consumption, but I will look into some frozen ones.

Thanks for the advice I tend to be a worry wart when it comes to diet for my pets. He seems to be plump and a poop machine and I'll keep experimenting with meaty foods.

So I've found a new winner, It's called Hikari sinking wafers designed for loaches and cories contains spirulina, silkworm and kirll. the protein is higher by 3% at 36% and he is mad for it! They are smaller wafers at about 7-8mm but all the bottom feeders in the tank are mad for it It seems based more for carnivores been 5 days now and nothing to suck up in the AM.

My L134s rarely eat alot of veg, even if there is a big slice of courgette in there they only eat a bit of it, however bloodworm prima and other frozen foods go within minutes. How's his stomach looking?

His stomach is fine as I said he eats lots of veg and now loves the hikari wafers.
