I have several pairs of convicts and convict hybrids I'm using for a project (building a mini flowerhorn), and my L114 was often caught helping his self to their eggs. So i thought as I have almost a never ending supply of eggs why not feed my meat eating plecs cichlid eggs?
So I got some little spotty hypans a couple days ago and moved a pot of freshly laid convict eggs into the QT tank and they were all over the eggs within the hour! I recon as the eggs are full of protein and all that good stuff to make babies grow that they would be a perfect growth food. Does anyone see a problem with this? of course I will still offer algae wafers and some veg (114 never touches veg ever). Anyone else done this?

I believe all Ls are oppornistic feeders and if for a vegetarian some meaty products come up even in the wild, they would take it. I would however not over feed with the meaty protein as it could cause later health issues if they eat too much. Just my view. cheers jk

Thanks JK, I was talking about feeding meat eating plecs such as pseudas and hypans. my pterygoplicthis collection only gets meaty stuff about once a week aside from fallen foods from their tankmates.

Yeah the cons and hybrids are at least 3rd gen tank bred by me or mates that I trust. I'm interested to see how feeding these eggs affects growth rates. my 114 has been growing painfully slow (about 4cm a year) so I want to see if I can speed things up a bit.
