My Calico L F babies finally hatched. This is the first spawn with about 30 or so wigglers. When will they leave the cave and what do I feed the babies. I have zucchini, lettuce and carrots on hand & I could hatch bb shrimp. This is all new to me, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Luci

"The bristlenose catfish fry will survive from absorbing the egg sac for the first few days. After this, algae covered objects can be added to the aquarium or the young fish can be introduced to a spirulina flake if this is impractical. Very regular water changes and a varied diet encourage good growth rates."

Irene, do you peal the skin or boil as it is the feed?
If you cut the courgette longways, then you can leave the skin on. Don't boil or microwave for too long though as it won't stay stable in the tank for long. You can also stick a couple of algae wafers into the flesh, tis what i do:yes:

oh forgot to say, scrub the skin to remove the shiny waxiness, this also helps to remove any pesticides that may be on the skin although i expect boiling would too. I just use a regular new scourer.

yes, they also like tinned green beans which are canned in salt water, just rinse off the salt water and drop them in, they sink and dont need any preparation

canned (tinned) veggies

I often thought about the green beans but knew they were preserved in salt water. I am surprised the salt absorbed into the bean itself isn't harmful.

Fresh green beans are good too, mine loved them. Ive never used tin ones.
