Anyone here using a home-made co2? I'm interested in giving it a try, can anyone advise for or against? any good links?
Cheers

I used a home made yeast co2 set up for a while, it works ok but with the yeast set ups its difficult to control the output of co2 plus this type is only really suitable for smaller tanks. You can make a co2 system using cannisters as well which is easier to regulate.

This link gives some info on yeast co2

This link is really good for setting up the pressurized co2 type

Thanks for the links!:) The yeast method looks like a pain in the but... I was looking for a way to save a few bucks, but it looks like too much tinkering. anyway off to do more research...

dead easy really mate. empty cola bottle ( or similar, but must be from a carbonated drink to withstand the pressure) yeast, sugar and water. oh and some silicon and CO2 proof tubing. The only hassle is refilling it every few weeks or so.

Cheers Buddy! The wife says it has to be pretty as the tank is in her reception area, but perhaps I can mask it well..

We indeed do have Hagen products here, pricey, but compared to the price of compressed co2 (can only get the disposable cartridges) its doable. thanks for all the help mate.
surely you can get hold of a co2 fire extinguisher?i read an article on DIY co2 and if you have a large tank and is heavily planted(with at least 3WPG) then pressurised is certainly the way to go and the most cost effective way is with a moddified extinguisher(after the initial forkout of the parts like regulaters, pressure gages etc...)then just get them refilled when it runs out.:)
hope this helps, but of course it does depend on a lot of things.it might be that this is overkill(like if you only have a 30l or something with a whopping great fire extinguisher atached to it will just be pointless:lol:)
