Whilst I know that generaly speaking Eheim are the daddies when it comes to producing externals, are there any ugly ducklings in the range?

Think I have found someone that carries the 'Classic' range, trying to get a price on the 2217.

My concern is that seems to be the bucket only, media I can buy (and actually have) but baskets would be nice as well as hoses etc.

the pro series look awesome, are there any I should generally stay away from?

As far as I know, Eheim are very solid canisters generally speaking. The classics are amazing and my pick. Although I personally would stay away from the Eco range but other than that the others are all very solid units and do very well for their size. Hope this helps champ. Maybe bigbird or lornek can help out more on this matter than i can.

Many thanks

Yeah i think it is the Eco range that people dislike.

Have found a 2217 in stock, can pick it up later in week, that means tank will have that rated at 600l and the existing tetratec that is rated for 250l.

Adequate I would say as the tank is only 250 ;)

Surprised there are no baskets in the classic range and that separation of media is done by sponge I guess.

Also no prime on them but I can work round that..

Edit - Thanks Lorne

No problem.
Baskets make it a bit more difficult to avoid bypass unless done really well. it also takes up space in the canister that could be used for media. It was in running the Classic series that made me try to avoid cleaning it and use supplemental filters & prefilters. I'd recommend getting the in-line disconnects, makes it easier to reprime if necessary.

I have 2 classics now, the same size you state that I got second hand and they are great, the flow is amazing! No baskets yes a little messy but as you say, sponge keeps it all seperate here and there

Good to hear.

What size tank you running them on?

I am wondering whether I even need the tetratec... but then you can never filter too much...

Hi Mike The eccos are the ones I have most problems with, but to be fair most of the problems are with customers trying to force them open them without letting the vacuum off first...The Classics, if the rumors are correct will be getting discontinued at the end of the year...However this should not put you off buying one as spares will be available for a long time.

All the new classics sold in the UK just now come with the twin tapsets as part of the package.

I will have a look see when I go down to the shop on thurs or fri.

Tapsets would pretty much be a necessity I would think.

With the additional powerhead I'm running its going to be a whirlpool in there. The 330 when it arrives will love it, angels however nmay not!

I have two eccos, I like them although flow rate isn't great, very easy to use. I have heard the pro 3 ( I think ) series that some are prone to leaking.

I have mine on a 90L tank with my group of 7 zebs and they also have a tetratec EX600 on there so lots of flow :woohoo:

I have an ecco and agree the flow rate isn't as good as the classic

I have the new pro 3 and old pro 2 and would never recommend buying them. Both dont compare to the classics.

Right now I am running a few 2215's and 2217's and 2x 2262 and imo they are the best canisters I have ever bought.

I used to like the renas but they are junk after 5 years of use.

Pro 1 & pro 2 range thermo filters are a good buy
east to clean and repair
Yeah I had figured that looking at the Eheim site.

However I think I'm limited to the classic range but I'll see later in the week
