Fin Damage

I have recently aquired a trio of L183 pleco's i'd say about 4 weeks ago. The last few days the male has been in his favourite cave with a female hanging around outside it. Today when i got home from work i noticed that the female now has a bit of fin damage on the dorsal (worst affected) and ventral fins (not so much). Now could this be from the male trapping it in the cave or just fighting do you reckon??

To be fair i've kept plec's for a while but now have only just begining to get into breeding, so all new ground for me :yes:. I welcome any thoughts people might have and i would hae taken a picture but have no camera at the moment but the dorsal fin seems pretty bad to me and would have thought it was a bit to much damage from trapping her in the cave ????:dk:

Do you have 2 females?.

I had 2 goes at keeping a trio but on each occasion one female killed the other and I had to settle for just have a pair. It could also be the signs of an attempted trapping so dont panic just yet.

Yeah i do have 2 females and this was the one that was hanging around outside his cave. If she gets any worse i shall take her out and put her in another tank to recover a bit i think :dk:

I dont think it was the other female as she spends most of the time at the other side of the tank but i could be wrong as never see what happened ????

Last nite i found her dead :~( :cry:

I didnt think that she was bad enough to warrant taking her out and she didnt seem any more beaten up ? I guess it was just too much for her :dk:. So maybe i had the same problem as the geeman where i can only keep a pair? The pair i have left is looking very healthy and seem to get on fine. I will just have to keep a really close eye on them now

Bad luck mate.

I have no problems with keeping a pair but the minute I made it a trio one of them got it.:cry:

I am pretty sure smithrc and windy have had very simillar experiences. I think Danielryan has a trio and I dont think hes had any problems though

bad luck, I guess they fought in the night.
at least you still have a pair? the other female is not worse for wear from a fight?
