Hi guys, so recently I got a new 20gal tank set up and cycled, furnished with a thin layer of gravel, D caves, half pots and a few other things. I've got a 4 inch male and 3.5 inch female in there with 4 un-sexed commons that are approx 2 inches. The male took to the cave really well, and spends most of his time inside or at the entrance, the female is about 14 months old and has been eating like crazy (diet mainly consisting of algae, cucumber, broccoli and pumpkin), and is quite fat (not bloated, just fattening up).
They've been together about 3 weeks now, the water levels are good, but I'm not sure what timeframe to look at for them to start spawning. How long does the female take to become gravid enough to lay eggs? Also, is this 'fattening up' a sign that the eggs are forming well? Her belly has become dark and she is a lot wider than a couple of weeks ago.
